Caerau Hopefuls was first established circa 1972 by the late George “Paddy” Jones. There are members of the original team still playing today: John ” Biffo” Myhre, Clive ” Puffa” Palfrey and Willie Hockridge. The first two having played every season since our inception.
The team originally played in the Roath Skittle League, our original home alley was the Highfields. When the Caerau Sports and Social club opened, the team moved there and transferred to the Cardiff Club’s League. With the demise of the Caerau Club we then transferred to the Home Guard club. Our playing night was a Wednesday, which most players did not like. We were offered a Friday night at the Riverside Conservative Club. We transferred here for a short time before being offered a Friday night at The West End Club, then we moved to the RAFA Club in Caerau. Starting in Division 11 we made rapid progress up the league to Division 4 (Promotion on average every 5 years). Over the years we have had many players come and go.
